Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Kostas Fragogiannis and the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia responsible for economic affairs, Fatmir Bytyqi, considered Greece-North Macedonia energy cooperation issues at a videoconference held yesterday.
The teleconference was a follow-up to previous meetings between the two sides, both on the margins of the visit of the prime minister of North Macedonia to Athens, and in Thessaloniki. These meetings once again highlighted the important role Northern Greece is gaining in the energy sector of the Balkans and the Southeastern Mediterranean.
In this context, yesterday’s videoconference included a discussion of Greece-North Macedonia energy connectivity issues, covering the supply of natural gas and oil. The energy upgrading of the region finds Greece with a leading role on the energy map.
Mr. Fragogiannis underscored, among other things, the benefits that closer cooperation between the two sides has for the economy, environment and energy security planning.
In the same spirit, the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Mr. Bytyqi, noted, among other things, that his participation in the videoconference, as well as that of the Ministers for Economy and Environment, is indicative of the will of the government of North Macedonia to make speedy progress.
North Macedonia’s Ministers for Economy and Environment, K. Bekteshi and N. Nuredini, Greece’s Secretary General for Energy, A. Sdoukou, and senior officials of DESFA and the ELPE Group also participated in the videoconference.
