    Decrease in electricity production in July compared to last year’s production in this period

    According to the data of the State Statistical Office, the production of electricity in June 2020 in Republic of North Macedonia, unlike last year, decreased by 3.6%. This year’s production is 481,329 MWh, while last year’s production was 499,516 MWh.

    The biggest drop of as much as 27% was recorded at the thermal power plants, this year’s production in July was 164,667 MWh, compared to last year’s production in this period of 225,694 MWh.

    Unlike the production of electricity from fossil fuels, the production of electricity from renewable sources has increased. The largest increase was registered at the production of electricity from hydropower plants by 45.9%, and there was also an increase in electricity production from solar power plants by 3.6% and wind power plants by 5.5%. We have record production at wind farms this year, as we have already reported.

    The gross domestic production of electricity participates with 92.4% in the gross domestic consumption of electricity, while 96.6% of the total coal consumption are used for electricity production according to the data from the State Statistical Office.
